1979 Lil' Red Express Truck

5,118 Lil' Red Trucks were made in 1979 with approximately 2,332 still remaining and sold for $7,421.75.  They were only made in 1978 & 1979.

In 1978 Dodge was not quite ready to give up on the muscle car extinction. Using a federal emissions loophole exempting vehicles with a GVWR over 6,000 lbs Dodge created the first Muscle Truck! They took a short wheel base D150 Utiline, modified a High Performance 360 C.I. police interceptor engine with a four barrel carburetor, added a 727 automatic transmission used on the 440 C.I. engines, then mated it to a 3.55:1 rear end. It produced 225 net horsepower @ 3800 RPM.

Some bright red paint, western decals, wood bed and siding and chrome big rig exhaust make this vehicle anything but subtle. Dodge advertised it as one of their “Big Boy Toys”. In 1978 Car and Driver magazine called it the fastest American made vehicle from 0-100 MPH.
