7,479 Fireflite Sportsmans were made in 1956 and sold for $3,028-$3,564.
The DeSoto Fireflite Sportsman first appeared in 1955 as Virgil Exner's new "Forward Look" design and nearly doubled DeSotos sales for the year.
The high-line car was the Fireflite with two tone paint, sporty coupe styling and loads of features. For 1956 it was all about fins! A new 12 volt system and increase in horsepower to 255 from a 330 C.I. Hemi made the 1956 even better. A push button PowerFlite transmission set itself apart from other manufactures.
This vehicle was built May 18, 1956 in Detroit and was originally Sunny Yellow with a Jet Black top and sweep with a Gray interior. Little is known of this vehicles history other than it spent time in a collection in San Diego. The fins are distinctive enough to challenge the tri-five Chevy's but rare enough that it is likely to be the only one at any show.
