Introduced on November 2, 1935 as a 1936 model Ford displayed its new line of cars to fit between its Ford V-8 De Luxe line and the exclusive Lincoln K-series to compete with the Cadillac LaSalle, Chrysler Airstream and Packard's One-Twenty. Conceived by Edsel Ford and designed by Bob Gregorie the Zephyr displays queues from the Chrysler and DeSoto Airflow creating a beautiful art decco streamlined vehicle. This streamlining influenced its name derived from the Greek word zephyrus, or the god of the west wind. Lincoln upstaged its competition by placing a V-12 in the car.
This vehicle was assembled on Nov. 15, 1939 and shipped to Cleveland on Nov. 21, 1939. It is one of 1,256 three window two passenger coupes built in 1940 selling for $1,360. It is not known how many remain. Favored by custom car builders it is rare to find one in stock condition.
