1935 DeSoto Airflow MODEL SG

6,874 Model SGs were made in 1935. Today there are 103 known to remain, this is one of them.

The Chrysler/DeSoto Airflow was the first automotive design to completely embrace streamlining which had become very popular in everything from furniture to kitchen appliances.  It may be the first vehicle designed in a wind tunnel.  It proved too radical for the public to accept in large numbers but was influential on future designs such as the famous 1936-40 Lincoln Zephyr.

Other innovative design features such as all steel construction (no wood in the body), steel roll cage, rear passengers placed in front of the rear axle and "floating power" engine mounts were trend setters for future cars of all manufacture.

This vehicle was built on Feb. 13, 1935 and sold new in Bethlehem, PA.  It remained within approx. 200 mi. radius (despite multiple ownership) until 2012 when Carlsen Classics moved it to California.  Although it has a mere 58,000 original miles on it, long term storage had caused some deterioration of the interior.  The vehicle has undergone a sympathetic mechanical and interior restoration.
